Finding new ways

Author = Kate

I walked with Eric to school today as usual. Nicole went to a classmate's house last night to work on their lesson plan, and did not come home. We assume she stayed the night there and probably went out to Bambu Jams because Tuesday night is ladies night and they have the free salsa lessons as well. The girl whose house she went to goes there every Tuesday I think.
So yeah, I walked with Eric and on the way there we looked for the office of a friend of Steve's named Christina. Eric has to give 2 private English lessons as part of his course, and Steve said Christina may be interested. We couldn't ever find her office, so Steve is going to call her.
On my way back, instead of running I decided to walk. I didn't eat much yesterday and didn't want to overdo it. I walked a completely different way this time as well. Instead of going around town and back the normal way, I hardly went in town at all and took this road that leads out to the Quepos airport. It winds up a long hill and eventually you turn left onto a dirt road that winds around and leads back to the villa. Overall, it was probably around 2 miles. It took me about 35 min. to do it though b/c of the hills. Also, because there is no shoulder at all, so when I heard cars coming (and they come fast!) I had to step over into the grass and wait for them to pass. I probably won't be taking that road very often, but I wanted to check it out. Steve said it's better on Sunday when there's no traffic.
I have decided to apply to some more schools today, or at least send them my resume to keep on file. There is one in Panama City that needs an elementary school P.E. teacher. There are many Americans and foreigners that go there, so they teach in English. The position doesn't start until August though, so if I was offered it, I don't know what I'd do until then. Possibly teach some exercise classes and/or CPR. Maybe some English teaching as well. I sent my resume to a new private school in Guanacaste, which is almost on the Nicoya Peninsula in northern Costa Rica. They didn't list any openings though. There are a few in Managua, Nicaragua that I will send it to as well. One school there had an opening for a highschool P.E. teacher and athletics director. Included in their list of sports was: swimming, volleyball, and softball, all of which I am knowledgeable on. I thought that sounded great, however, you have to be an evangelical Christian to work there. Ha... I don't think I could fake that part.
I heard back from a job I applied to in Buenos Aires, Argentina to be a clubhouse director for this company that designs 2-week trips for student groups and such. However, they need the person to start in February and you have to have an advanced level of Spanish. I told her I could start then, but that my Spanish would not be advanced. lol. I don't think they want me.
So, Eric get's done with school fairly early today and we are planning to head to the beach around 2:30ish. That will give us 1.5 hours of HOT and then 1 hour of very nice weather before the sun goes down. I am looking forward to it because we have not been to the beach since last Saturday. I'm trying to get a tan here! Steve commented today that I looked like I lost a few pounds. I am not sure how you tell that someone lost a FEW pounds, but it made me feel better non-the-less. I am hoping to get that holiday weight off one way or another. I may try surfing today. I will have to bring my one-piece to put over my two-piece b/c the bottoms to my two-piece have gotten stretched out and might come off! That's not the kind of attention I want to get around here, so yeah, bring the one-piece.
That's about all that's on tap today besides doing laundry. I think I missed talking to Eric over the walkie talkies on his morning break b/c I was in the shower. He gets another break around 11:45/12:00, so I will talk to him then. I am more positive right now than I was when I first woke up. Maybe my morning walk got my endorphines going. I was a little sad this morning. I am glad my parents are visiting mid-February. I miss everyone at home a lot. Ok, gotta get on this resume stuff before I have to leave.

Pura Vida!
