Eric's Birthday

Written by Kate.

Well, we haven't written in awhile and I need to catch everyone up! I'll start with Eric's birthday.

We woke up like every other day, except there were many birthday greetings for Eric. The morning was pretty normal, but then I got Steve to take Eric to the beach for a couple hours so I could bake him a cake. I planned a 4pm cake and ice cream party with our roommates and Steve. So, while they were gone I starting working on it. Of course, all we have is a toaster oven, so I only made 2/3 of the recipe. It wasn't too hard and actually baked a lot faster than I expected! However, I think I didn't let the cake cool off enough because when I put the frosting on it ended up looking a little runny. I bought a pack of candles, but there were only 22 of them, so I tried to make the roman numerals for 27 out of the candles. Unless pointed out, you'd never be able to tell.

Around 4pm I gathered everyone in the kitchen area. We practiced singing the happy birthday song in Spanish and waited for Eric and Steve. We had decorated the terrace with balloons and a banner. Unfortunately, at the store, there were few choices, so I had to get baby shower balloons and a spider man birthday banner.

Eric and Steve finally got home around 4:30pm. He went to put down his things and then I instructed him on where he should enter. I set up the camera for a movie and in he came! I brought the cake out to him, his roman numerals all ablaze. Steve, thinking he should take a picture, picked up the camera after which a distressed cry came from me telling him it was already on movie! lol. It was ok though, the movie still turned out pretty good.

Around 6:30pm Eric and I walked into town to have a nice, romantic dinner at the all-you-can-eat sushi place. We were saving that for a special occasion. It was really good and we stuffed ourselves to uncomfortable levels! Walking home helped. Once we got home, we were pretty tired. There had been talk of a birthday bonfire, but that wasn't seeming like a good idea anymore. However, Steve did convince us to ride with him to drop off his girlfriend Christina in town. Once we were in town, he then convinced us we should go out. So, we went to Aqua Azul for a few drinks but we couldn't handle much. After an hour or so we ended up coming back home and calling it a night. Eric had a good time and that's all that mattered. Hope you enjoy the video.
